ORIGINAL ARTICLE: BBC Asian Network celebrates Diwali with Week-Long Festivities
BBC Asian Network is celebrating Diwali 2021 like never before, with a week of festivities that involves the entire UK.
Starting on October 29, 2021, artist Milan Arvindkumar will produce a live art piece on the concourse of Birmingham New Street Station.
Milan will design a Rangoli pattern with the BBC Asian Network logo incorporated into a two by two metre art piece.
It is estimated to take five hours and will be created in full view of the public.
A Rangoli pattern represents a household’s happiness, positivity and liveliness.
The artwork will be available to see for four days. In addition, a time-lapse of the creation of the Rangoli will be available to watch across BBC Asian Network’s social accounts.
On November 4, 2021, during Harpz Kaur’s Breakfast Show, listeners will hear party anthems which will kickstart a selection of 24 mixes that will be played over 24 hours.
Every 30 minutes, Asian Network DJs, as well as UK-based and international DJs including Devan Musiq, DJ Nav and yourboykiran and Chandé from the Daytimers Collective will introduce specially commissioned Diwali mixes, reflecting vibrancy and positivity.
Each mix will point to a different theme that epitomises the celebration, including a Diwali Rangoli Mix focused on tracks that emphasise colours.
In addition, ‘My Diwali’ will see celebrity guests such as Eastenders‘ actress Gurlaine Kaur Garcha, presenter Sonali Shah, singer and producer Raool and BBC Asian Network’s DJ Goldtooth.
‘My Diwali’ will commence on November 1, 2021, and will see the guests share how they respect and recognise the festival of lights, despite having different religious backgrounds.
They will talk about what the festival means to them and how they incorporate the various messages into their own daily lives.
Throughout the week of Diwali on BBC Asian Network, presenters and callers will also have the opportunity to share what the festival means to them and how they intend to celebrate it this year.
